Staff ratio to children:

Our aim at William House is to provide a high quality, integrated early education and childcare facility for parents to invest in their child’s early years development and education, giving children the opportunity to experience the very best possible start to their education.

Girl JumpingChildren within the Foundation Stage are aged 3, 4 and 5 years old.

The role of the practitioner includes establishing relationships with children and their parents, planning the learning environment and curriculum, supporting and extending children’s play, learning and development and assessing children’s achievements and planning their next steps, through the Stepping Stones towards the Early Learning goals in all six areas of the Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage. Children entering the Foundation Stage follow a carefully planned programme focusing on all areas of learning:

  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Communication, language and literacy development
  • Mathematical development
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world
  • Physical development
  • Creative development

The term 'curriculum' is used to describe everything children do, see, hear or feel.

The foundation stage is about developing key early learning skills such as listening, speaking, concentration, persistence and learning to work together and co-operate with other children. It is all about developing early communication, literacy and numeracy skills that will prepare young children for Key Stage 1 of the National Curriculum. The mobile library is a huge success in developing further skills.

We ensure that our children enter school having established solid foundations on which they can build. This will help to ensure that they continue to flourish throughout their school and beyond.

The role of the nursery practitioners includes establishing relationships with the children and their parents, planning the learning and environment curriculum, supporting and extending children's play, learning and development. Your child's progress and achievement is recorded within a Profile Booklet. The Profile Booklet starts and finishes within the Foundation Stage ages 3, 4 and 5.

A full education programme has been developed to encourage your child to develop to his or her potential.

The children are encouraged to take part in all aspects of nursery life from preparing to tidying.

A full extra-curricular activity programme is always very popular with the children from three years upwards. We have a walled garden with a full safety floor for outdoor play with age-appropriate equipment.
